E.S. Director Message :Faculty of Law :English Section :Cairo University
The word of Prof. Dr. Osama Shawki El-Meligy
Faculty of Law :English Section :Cairo University :Head Message :Prof. Dr. Osama Shawki El-Meligy The faculty of law at Cairo University is a leading academic and legal institution in Egypt. Such reputable standing is not only due to the fact that it was the first law faculty established in Egypt, but also, due to its positive contribution to the development and progress of the society at large in diverse fields, including but not limited to, economic, social, political and academic fields.

In order to keep abreast of academic and practical developments, the faculty of law has established the English Legal Section in the academic year 1995/1996, when the first cohort of students was admitted.

The first group of students, around (80) graduates, graduated in 1999, and in 2009 the number of students admitted exceeded (150) and the number of graduates exceeded (105).

That said, it is worth noting that the English Section upholds and maintains the highest standards in admitting students, who are normally expected to have very good command of English language and must have achieved the highest grades in high school or equivalent international degrees.

Students enrolled into the English Section study law in both English and Arabic. whilst a number of courses are purely taught in English, others are purely taught in Arabic to maintain a warranted equilibrium for both theoretical and practical considerations. Moreover, students experience a taste of other legal systems, where they are offered courses focusing on common law such as: “Introduction to Anglo-American Legal System”, “English Contract Law and Torts”, and “English Commercial Law” etc.

Finally, we are all committed to the progression and advancement of the English section at the Faculty of Law, Cairo University, and we pledge to exert our utmost efforts to maintain such position as the leading English Section amongst all law faculties in Egypt by offering unparalleled legal education.
